He doesn't know what it is and gave us a few suggestions for what to do. We chose to have the lump removed and biopsied. She's having her surgery this afternoon and I will pick her up later today. She's going to have wear a collar for a little while so she doesn't lick her leg - she's not going to like that! But we'll manage - treats will help I'm sure.
And then we wait for the results. Oh, boy. it's going to be a rough couple of days.

Thinking good thoughts for Daisy. My Boxer sister, Snap, had a lump a few months ago. Mom was sooooo nervous, but it turned out to be nothing serious. I'm hoping the same is the case for Daisy.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear that Daisy has a lump on her leg but I am very impressed that her vet got her right into the office immediately! I hope it's nothing but a beauty lump, as Salinger said! Keep us posted and just try to keep your mind of it if you can!
Oh no. We will think all good thoughts for Daisy. I am with Salinger and feel everything will turn out ok. I know it won't stop the worry though. Such a terrible feeling when you think something may be wrong. We will all be crossing our paws and saying our prayers.

I am with everyone else and hope that it is nothing.
My foster pug Quincy had mast cell cancer. His tumors looked like calluses with no fur on them. When the vet aspirated them with a needle, they bled a bit. My vet said that was a strong indicator of mast cell cancer, but needed to look at the cells first. She did it in the office under a microscope and could identify that it was cancer. But maybe not all vets are as experienced in that.
If it does turn out to be mast cell cancer, it is not a death sentence. Removing the tumor with clean margins is the first step, so you've already done that part. IF it is cancer, ask your vet about testing the closest lymph node to the location. Quincy's biggest tumor was on his neck, right in between two sentinel lymph nodes. Although his tumors (turned out to have a few) were small and there were good margins, since the cancer was in his lymph nodes, we decided to do chemotherapy.
He did really well on chemo. And I put him on a special diet and supplements to help his body fight the cancer. Although we did discover a few more tumors, they didn't grow very much. Due to his age (and honestly the rescue didn't want to pay for any more surgeries), we opted not to remove those. He had the tumors removed in 2009 and lived another 18 months. He passed in his sleep on Sunday. Although I do not know exactly what caused his death, I don't think it was cancer. He was 12.

OMP that was Mum last years. She founds a lump in my side. The vet removed a sample and it turned outs to be just benign. We will have a paws crossed for yous. Better to gets the lump removed then risk leaving it there even if it is nothings. Mine is a fat build up and I have two of thems. I could have them removed buts the vet says it is small enoughs that they will be ok. If they gets bigger they gotta goes!
