A visit to the vet's

Pearl here. Mommy took me for my annual check-up and talked to the doctor about a limp I sometimes have. We learned a few years ago that my knees are kind of wonky - a puggie thing - but lately Mommy's noticed it's a little worse. The doctor said it needs to be taken care of and they recommended anti-inflammation medication. Mommy wasn't sure because drugs make her nervous, but then the doctor gave my legs a good feel and said that I've actually lost some muscle mass in the bad leg and that I need to fix that!

So we came home with some medication which Mommy wants to give me but is still a little nervous about. They took blood tests so that they have an idea of where I'm at today with my liver and stuff and then in a few weeks they'll check again to make sure the medication isn't hurting me. Mommy wishes there was another way but the vet said this was the best way to avoid me having further problems.

Other than that silly hind leg, I'm perfect - of course. And I'm thinking that maybe having a bum bad leg isn't so bad because I'm already getting special treatment today (extra treats anyone?) and lovely longer than usual belly rubs.

Well, I think I hear the treat bag again so bye for now!

  1. Hi Pearl
I am sorry to hear about your leg... don't worry, vets are wise! I am on medication FOR LIFE and that scared my mom A LOT but there is no choice, if I don't take it I die. Just like that. So my mom tries to think about the present and how healthy and happy I am now and maybe the secondary effects will NEVER show up! (humans with the same disease receive the same treatment as I do, and they live happy too!)

  2. Hi Pearl,
I'm sorry that you have to take some medicine, hopefully it will make your leg better! I'm sure Owner Girl would worry about me if I needed meds too, but vets are smart and they know what is best for you (I just wish they'd find a better way to take our temps!), so I hope your mom doesn't worry too much!

  4. We are sorry to hear about your bum leg. Lucky has a sort of gimpy leg, especially in winter, when it id cold. But since she lost 1 pound, she is doing better with it. Only one pound. Of course, she is now 12.7 pounds, so she is pretty small. Mom says your mom should keep an eye on your weight and that it doesn't stress out your leg.
Other than that, you're right, you're perfect. (Of course, you're a pug)

  5. hi pearl!
emmitt here. my momma just put me on deramax after she finally thought my stiffness turned to pain. i had the blood tests too and i am very happy to report that i am feeling much better and have no side effects at all either physically or internally with the second blood test showing all normal numbers.
tell your momma not to worry. these new generation of medications are much better than the rimadyl that was the first approved drug that can sometimes upset tummies.

  9. Hi Pearl,

You poor thing! Make sure that you make sad faces at your Mom... that always gets you extra tummy rubs and treats.

You still look adorable and your picture is as cute as ever.

  11. hi Sue - yes, the Santa is great - I'm sorry Pearl was terrified of your Santa! The pugs were actually so good - that picture was the first and only photo the people at the mall had to take - they were all in utter amazement since every other dog needed multiple shots to get it right. They didn't mind Santa at all, but on the way out of the mall Winston stopped and pooped right between a Verizon wireless store and a Jessica McClintock. How embarrassing!!!

  12. Hi there Pearl,
Sorry to hear about your bum leg. I can understand why your Mom is nervous, but I hope the medication works for you with no bad side effects.
And, THANK YOU girls!! I got my prize in the mail last night, and we just love it. My mom really loves the bookmarks; they are so beautiful! Now we get to see both of you every time my mom cracks her book! (That means almost every day! YAY!)
I enjoyed some of the treats too, and I have been helping mom read the magazine.
Thanks again - you are so pawesome!
